The Dead Licks are an alternative rock group that met at the University of Dayton in 2015. Their style is influenced by bands including Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, The Strokes, and Pearl Jam. The Dead Licks recorded their first record Stay Away from the Aliens in April 2018, and recently released a new single, "What Happened."

Alt-rock band The Dead Licks to rock the Music Box with Cleveland Sessions show Thursday

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Dead Licks have taken their sound from the campus of the University of Dayton to the city of Chicago. The group's next big move is to perform at the star-studded LaureLive music festival this summer.

The Dead Licks have been shattering ear drums since 2016 with their melodic jam-band spin on alternative rock. The Chicago-based rock quartet released their self-titled debut EP in 2016 and dropped their debut full-length album, Stay Away from the Aliens, in 2018. With rollicking guitars, warm keyboards and raspy, hearty lead vocals, The Dead Licks exude the same intoxicating euphoria you felt when you discovered your first favorite band, locked yourself in your bedroom and absorbed their music with every drop of your soul. With live shows characterized by extended jams and spellbinding guitar solos, The Dead Licks capture the kind of infectious, unspoken electricity and unrelenting joy that can only come from a group of best friends.

The band formed at the University of Dayton, where they bonded over a shared love of bands like Radiohead, The Strokes, Pearl Jam, and Wilco. Comprised of close college buds Jack Grbac (guitar), Tom Inzinga (guitar, vocals), Jimmy Gallagher (drums) and Johnny McNamara (bass), The Dead Licks owe their existence to a happenstance Internet exchange—Grbac’s unsuspecting email to their college recording studio and a reply from Inzinga. After recruiting Gallagher and McNamara to complete the band, The Dead Licks played their first show in 2016, and haven’t looked back since. They quickly became a staple in Dayton’s live music scene and decided to set their sights even higher. They’ve since headlined Cleveland’s Grog Shop and played Chicago’s House of Blues, Schubas Tavern, Reggie’s Rock Club and The Cubby Bear.  But it doesn’t stop there— the band is set to perform their first festival gig at LaureLive Festival in Cleveland, where they will be accompanied by the likes of Hozier, Sheryl Crow, Dirty Heads, and more.

The Dead Licks have just finished recording at Chicago’s Treehouse Records, and plan to release new music in early summer 2019.  Stay tuned for more updates along the way.
